Sore boobs - primrose oil work for you?

Just after I ovulate, my boobs start to get increasingly sore, up to 10 days before, then about a day after my period comes it disappears. I also get back ache, slight cramps and have a general crap feeling. All typical PMS symptoms.

I've taken Evening Primrose oil in the past (1000mg) but can't say I've noticed a difference. Maybe I wasn't taking it long enough?

Has anyone else noticed an improvement after taking this or starflower oil and if so, what quantities and for how long?

Unfortunately hormonal contraception isn't for me anymore so I have to deal with these annoying symptoms au naturel.

I take 1000 mg of starflower and is has completely solved my boob pain. i was really suffering with it and it was becoming more and more frequent. Now I get pain very rarely and is now always hormone related when I am due on.

Thanks jammygal. Do you take it every day in tablet form?

I can cope with a day or two of sore boobs before my period but 10 days is too long! I wince when my DC's go to hug me!

Hi Belline - I'm in the same boat: painful ovulation and then all those symptoms - agonisingly sore boobs - for two weeks minimum. I hate it and will be watching for other suggestions. I have tried EPO, regular exercise, no alcohol, less sugar, Vit B, and while I thought some of the things worked for a period of time then I'd have a really bad month which meant they didn't. I'm currently having one of the worst ever, despite a multi vitamin, EPO, running four times a week and low-ish calorie diet....I thought it was brilliant last month when I had two days of pain and then this month I am 7 days in and not even due for another ten Angry A friend was told by her GP that it had to be massive doses of EPO. (I've been using 1000mg.
Jammygal, I'll try starflower next....

Well I've bought 1000mg of starflower oil and will give that a go.

Does anyone know if you start taking it on the first day of your period or when it ends?

Will also try and cut down on the sugar....

I've been taking 1000mg of starflower oil for the past few months and it has definitely helped with my breast pain. I can't remember how long it took before I noticed a difference - a couple of months anyway. You can start taking it at any time as far as I know.

Hello I'm back again.....I take a 1000mg capsule every day regardless of symptoms/ time of the month etc
I Found EPO didn't do much but found starflower helped within a short space of time. It's expensive but worth it to cut out those painful symptoms most of the time. as I said above I now get a small amount of niggling but nothing on what I used to suffer with before starflower!

I've never tried starflower, but EPO is a god send for me. I have to take it every day for a couple of months to see the effects, but it calms (not eradicates) the pre period boob pain, and massive smoothed out my hormonal mood swings.

I used the Boots ones. Not sure of the dosage.

Once I'm no longer pregnant I might try Starflower - does it also help with moods?

I used it on advice of breast clinic and it helped a lot. Loads.

Dosage they recommended was at least 340 mg of GLA ( is that it?) so check data on the bottle.
