RIGHT! Who is due a smear and hasn't booked one????

I had mine on Friday and it has all changed (the method, not my nethers).

It is now a plastic speculum (sp??!) and they use a brush not a scraper to get cells, which apparently reduces the need for you to get called back as they can take more cells.

Done in about 1 minute and I had dd2 whingeing for 'iskits' (biscuits) in her buggy to contend with as well.

So. No excuses. Get it booked.

Oh ... I keep forgetting to book mine Blush

Thank you for the reminder, I will try to get one booked for a couple of weeks time.

I'm overdue one Blush but am interested to hear about the new method. Previously they have had to use a special speculum for my lady garden, due to my cervix being somewhere up near Edinburgh. I've seen a lot of harrassed practice nurses donning miners helmets to find it... I WILL go though, promise, promise.

Did they say that this was done everywhere now?. Or is it pilot scheme in your area? I read about this test about a year ago and now much better it is for everyone

me i am 7yrs over due, had a bad expeirence with a nurse who done my smear 7yrs ago, just had had a c/s and a doctor came in and done an internal without the nurse being there, the nurse then came in and done the smear(she wasn't very nice to me i was 17yrs old), i was still bleeding from having ds as he was only 6wks old(i later found out it should have been 10wks after having ds and not 6wks because of the c/s and the post partum bleed, but the surgery had pestered me with letters that i should have it done at 6wks, i was told the smear wouldn't have a clear reading so they would get in touch, sure enough 3weeks later i had another smear, when i went into reception i overheard the receptionist saying to the nurse i thought Miss * has already had a smear, nurse replied loudly "she did have one but she was bleeding" haven't been back since, i am now at a new doctor surgery and the doctor in question is under investigation for seemingly examining young ladies breasts when they went to the doctor with sore heads, throats or back ache and giving a young woman prescriptions for methadone that wasn't written on her notes, then i found out he should never examined me without the nurse being there, whole thing was a shambles, i feel sick when i think of that doctor

I am SO sorry you went through that. Have you reported what happened to you to the police? Even 7 years later, it is still possible to report this.

I am overdue and keep getting letters reminding me Blush Over the past week I have period like pains and cramps in the pelvic area but as I'm on the pill this is unusual for me. I now think I should hurry up and get a smear!! Shock Don't know what symptons I should have if there was anything wrong so just panicing.

Mine was due at Christmas but I need it done on either a Monday or Friday (off work) AND it needed to be done in the morning so that dd1 wasn't there ("what's that lady doing to your bum mummy?" etc etc) and then you have to wait for the right time in your cycle.

So it is hard to schedule.

Kidstrack - can you request a female nurse? I always always have a female, just feels more comfortable that way for me.

expatin no i have never reported it, but i did mention it to family planning a few years ago, and it was here that they told me what should of happened etc and that i could report it, they told me when i had my second baby there was no need to do an internal as they were no purpose for them anymore, releif washed over me. I just pray that i'm not called or anything due to the investigation, this doctor is retired and lives in another town, patients notes have been looked over and young women coming forward, its been in the local newspaper, but i really want to leave it, i was abused as a child (in and out of fostercare)and i feel i have moved on from then, i feel it would start churning everything up in my head again, i am so happy at the moment in my life, if only i could just hop on that table at fp it would be so good, fp have been really understanding and haven't pestered me to have it done, but i know sometime soon i need to have it done, if for only my kids sakes, its their lives i'm playing with
