What a night I spent it feeling really weird and dizzy and when I tried to walk kept failing sideways, really scared as I could not focus, so went to hospital they said it was vertigo, anyone else had this, wondered how long it lasts as I still wobble nearly six hours later. Just scared it is something different, must stop looking at the medical sites, turning into a hypo

I had it when I was 18 many moons ago. I don't remember dizziness as such but I remember walking up the road and ending up walking sideways into the road, I was like a crab. I recall going to the doctors and him saying it was an imbalance of fluid in the ears, or something like that. I think it lasted about a week. 12 yrs later I was doing the ironing one evening and came over really funny. Ended up on the bed just waiting for the spinning to stop. It lasted about 40 minutes. Touch wood had nothing since. The spinning was so fast though. Weird.

Hi they prescribed betahistine which does not seem to be working yet, I have now been dizzy over 12 hours and am wondering how much longer as I have a school age ds to get ready tomorrow and feel so woozy. I thought vertigo was over quite quickly

You may have labyrinthitis.
Do you feel nauseous too?
Labyrinthitis normally lasts 1 to 6 weeks so if that's what it is you may feel ill for a while.
Best thing you can do is get as much rest as possible.
Serc ( betahistine) made me feel worse.
Prochlorperazine might help.
Hope you feel better soon.
Can anyone help with ds tomorrow?
I was terrified when I had my first attack of vertigo. I am unlucky as have had ongoing problems, but this is quite rare- hopefully in a week or so you'll feel much better.

My DH has this but tablets never did much. Google Epley Manouvre and see if that helps, there's videos on YouTube.

Yes have had this twice, so bad my eyes were flicking and I couldn't lift my head from the pillow without vomiting. Absolutely horrendous, and came on following having my ears syringed the day earlier which I assume was the cause. Took travel sick tablets to help, but it took nearly all day until I could get out of bed and still felt rough 24 hours later.

Never ever having ears syringed again.

OP
My DM was diagnosed with vertigo due to her dizzyness, and took one antihistamine daily for years. They appeared to work for her.

Last year my SIS awoke in bed to see the room spinning. She was so ill she had to stay in bed with eyes shut for 3 days, but was OK after that.

Thanks for all your replies, I dont feel sick luckily, but still feel weird am just taking my time doing things, DH and DS both helping, just hope it goes soon, I agree the tabs not helping, I will also look up the manoeuvre that was mentioned and see if that helps. Have been referred to ENT specialist, so hopefully it may just be a one off. Just good to read others experiences

Good you have been referred. I have Meniere's which causes vertigo, tinnitus and a "full" feeling in your ears. The symptoms can come and go with long periods between episodes (even years). I am sure your ENT will check for it. Lots of things can cause vertigo, though, so best diagnosed by the experts.
