Sore Shoulder

I've had a sore shoulder for about a week. Especially when I lie on it in bed.

It feels like tissue pain and is only sore when I move it behind me (eg to put on my seat belt) or up (to reach things from cupboards) or when lying on it in bed.

It's not sore the rest of the time.

Who do I see about it? Would a physio be the right person? Or is that too much for a sore shoulder.....

I've left it a week and it hasn't gone away by itself.....

Sorry - I wish I knew the answer! I've had a sore shoulder for 2 months! Dr says its probably a rotator cuff injury - whatever that is! - and it will go away by itself.
I'm waiting patiently. Hope yours gets better soon

I have the same thing at the moment. My shoulder is hurting all the time.

It's across the front of my shoulder kind of level with the top if my armpit, straight across.

Hurts to put my arm out to the side and up very badly. Goes numb if I roll onto it in my sleep.

Have you googled impingement?

I swear by my amazing osteopath who fixed a similar sounding pain in my shoulder a couple of years ago

Thanks everyone.

My pain's getting worse not better. A lot worse.

I'm definitely going try to see someone tomorrow.

But should I see a physio or an osteopath?

Salted if you can find a good osteopath I would try that first.

I had a problem with my other shoulder a few years ago and physiotherapy did nothing.

How did you get on salted?

I've been in so much pain with mine - was awake until 3am yesterday morning. Spoke to Gp who said to take regular ibuprofen and book an appointment in 4 weeks if no better.

I thought it was good. He says the pain comes from 20 years of sitting at a computer, which I think is probably right.

He did a bit of manipulation stuff and he has helped, but will take more sessions to get back all my movement.

He wouldn't say how many, so am a bit nervous about the cost mounting up. But the first session did help, and I do feel confident that he can correct the posture problems which have caused my shoulder problem.

So far I would recommend it.

I had exactly the same thing a while back. I suffered with it for ages because I hate going to the doctor!

Anyway, I had to see an osteopath too and he gave me a corticosteroid injection with a huge needle right into the shoulder joint, I nearly fainted when I saw the needle. It helped just enough for me to start physio. I had 8 sessions I think. After the first session it felt worse and I wanted to give up but it's worth carrying on as it did get my shoulder moving again.

They told me to use some weights at home and sit with my arms hanging down beside me just holding the weights and very slightly swinging them back and forth.

Good luck with the treatment.

Glad it went well Salted Grin lets hope it won't take too many sessions.

I went to the hospital with mine today, I'm in agony. Can't move it at all. The dr thought it was dislocated given the amount of pain and immobility, so sent me off for an X-ray - not dislocated. So must see the Gp as an emergency on Monday to get physio started and possibly an MRI.

We shall see.

Got to say I'm feeling better each day, even though I've only had the 1 session so far.

Am very pleased.
