nits - help! eggs seem to slip through comb

DS1 had nits a while back which we managed to get rid of using the regular combing etc.

BUT he now has some eggs again and they don't come out with the comb, they just slip through. I am picking them off by hand which is slow, not that reliable, and painful for him.

Does combing only work on hatched eggs? I am desperate to get rid of the eggs quickly as he urgently needs a haircut (can't see out!)and one is booked for early next week.

Tell your hairdresser that he has no live lice, they should still cut it.

Get a bug buster kit on prescription from GP - has 2 combs, one for nits and one for eggs. Others recommend nitty gritty comb, but the bug buster works for me.

We got told they have to grow out or cut out

I ended up puling them out, but the strand of hair came out with each one!!

i'm another nitty gritty convert - it's the only one that traps eggs too - chemists will order it for you or buy it online (about a tenner). Also school nurse recommended using vinegar to rinse child's hair (i add 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water in a jug for final rinse) - apparently it neutralises eggs and stops them hatching. Plus always using tea tree oil in shampoo and conditioner and spraying with nit repellent (available from Asda). All a bit belt and braces but you need a 3-pronged attack with these little blighters!

I sometimes use baby oil on dd's hair when combing through and I guess the eggs would be less likely to slip off?
