Before the Easter hols DD2 fell and cut her knee, even put a hole in her trousers. It was healing nicely until she knocked it again and again. Needless to say the scab came off. She's been complaining it's been hurting for days, although I couldn't see anything.
School rang yesterday, DD2 vomitted in class. She said she had a headache all day yesterday so I gave calpol twice. She also had a fever.
Today, she still has a fever and her knee is green! So the questions are: are the two things related (although she was the third to be sick in her class yesterday so unlikely?); and how do I get this awful pus out of her knee. FIL suggested soap and sugar. I also have blister plasters which seem to draw fluid out of blisters - wondering if they work on pus?
TIA

It could be that the two are related and if they are she really needs to be seeing a GP for some antibiotics.
If the knee is green, red and hot to touch and/or if there are red lines tracking away from it she musht be seen by a dr ASAP.
I would soak her in the bath for as long as she can sty in then gently pat her knee dry.
She probably needs an antiseptic dressing like inodine (iodine impregnated gauze). Perhaps your practise nurse could fit you in todya?
Is there any chance there was glass in the cut?

It's kind of a light green, mostly yellow pus. It's a little swollen and not hot, no red lines either. That would really worry me! There was no glass in the cut and it was healing nicely over two weeks until the scab got knocked off. Had that prob with DD1 - glass in a cut in her foot and remember those symptoms well!
I might see if a practice nurse can fit us in, thanks, you've been a big help.

It really sounds to me as if she should see a GP for antibiotics. Thats a long time for a small wound to remain inflamed. She may have picked up a nasty bug that will not go without treatment.

I did this as a child, ended up with an ulcerated leg. Please get her checked out by the GP; she may need antibiotics which the nurse won't be able to give her.

WWB, the practise nurse would not send a wound away from the surg that needed antibiotics, plus some district and practises nurses actually can prescribeShockGrin

3mum - it happened a while ago but she was only complaining of it hurting since the scab fell off a few days ago. The pus only appeared yesterday. Appreciate the concern from all of you.
I ended up taking DD2 to the treatment room at the Dr's. Nurse looked at it and said as it's localised and not got into the blood put her in a hot bath and it will burst. Well it burst anyway on the way home, although more pus has gathered but will bathe her until it clears. She asked if she was well in herself so I told her about the headache/vomitting/fever. Nurse took DD2's temp and it was 39.3C so the nurse got a prescription from the locum. Glad to report DD2's temp down, headaches stopped, no more vomitting and not as much pus!
Thanks all.
