Red, flaky, burning upper lip

I've had a red and flaky patch just above my upper lip and under my nose for the past week and it's driving me crazy. I get a weird burning sensation too. Have been using lots of Vaseline on it as when I wake up in the morning it's so dry. It can feel pretty itchy too. It's very embarrassing, as the redness is very apparent and I'm sure people at work have noticed. The patch that's affected feels very odd and almost numb. I'm just not sure what triggered this - is it something I ate? An infection?
