If so was it a slow build up or more sudden.
I've had pain in my lower right abdomen since yesterday. Today I've been off my food a bit and extremely bloated. This evening I'm feeling a bit rougher - have a fever and the pain is a bit worse, especially when I move. But its not unbearable. I would describe it as very uncomfortable.
So my question is, if it was appendix could it build slowly like this or is it more likely to be a bug. I'm a bit nervous as I'm on my own with the kids tonight. I'm not normally a hypochondriac - honest

I have amongst other things....

Fever, worsening abdo pain and loss of appetite needs checking out.

Please ring out of hours my love. Does it hurt when you press or after pressing? Does it hurt to poo? Does it ease if you lie on your side with knees drawn up? Any chance you could be pregnant? Any funny discharge? Funny as in like prune juice?

Is there someone who can come and have the kids for you? I dont do dramatic but I have had appendicitis and have also had a ruptured ovary. I could be a completely scaremongering twat but id rather you come back and call me names if theres nothing wrong with you than just leave it. Xx

Mine was a slow build up - I felt rough a week before the pain.

I would call NHS direct, TBH. Better safe than sorry! xxx

Sorry, but it sounds like a classic appendicitis story. Get it checked this evening, don't wait.

I have 21 years ago but I remember the pain. It started as a general tummy ache, the next day it was local to my right hand side, I had a fever and my gran tried to "sweat it out of me". Hot water bottles, layers of clothes. T was the worst thing she could do. Mine burst.

Please phone OOH.

Thanks for reply. It hurts a bit when I press on it but not so much when I release which I know is one of the symptoms, so I'm hoping its nothing sinister. Drawing my knees up seems to make it a bit worse rather than ease it. I'm kind of stuck for the evening unless its an emergency. Will definitely get checked out tomorrow if it hasn't eased.

But seriously, if it IS appendicitis, and it sounds pretty likely, it would be so much better for you to get it dealt with this evening. If you wait for it to become an emergency, you could be a whole lot more ill, and develop complications like a burst appendix / peritonitis etc. PLEASE get yourself checked this evening.

Call ooh, get. Phone consult, then if they want you in organise a sitter. Don't put it off just because you are on your own.

Is yr DP contactable.?

I had a 'grumbling' appendix for years. One of the tests the surgeon did on me before they decide to operate was lie flat on my back. Turn to the left and then turn to the right completely. If I could do that without pain, it wasn't appendicitis.

I could do that and still had an appendix that was well over a foot long by the time they operated. (It was also wrapped around a lot of my organs, sort of squishing them) this was more than 15 years ago mind.

Get it checked if you can, otherwise keep a very close eye on yourself x

Mine started with stomach ache which moved to the right within 12 hours or so. It hurt when you pressed and released the area, bending double was the only small relief and I was also very sick. I was at Uni and had to drag myself 1 mile up the road to the doctors - who promptly stuck me in an ambulance! Appendix out within 6 hours of getting to doctors. If you are unsure call NHS direct and try to find someone to look after the children. It is much better to catch appendicitus before it bursts.
Having said this I was in hospital twice before with a suspected appendicitus - one of which was definitely later put down to a virus. Hope you feel better soon.

Definitely sounds like it too me. Just shown your message to a nurse friend who said she would strongly recommend a least talking to a professional. But would be very surprised if it wasn't appendicitis after reading your symptoms. Please please get it checked out. Mine nearly ruptured-I have never been so poorly.

Abdo pain on the right isnt always appendicitis, there are a few possibilities and you really need to be checked tonight. Please dont be all stoic and leave it. I did that and nearly died, my best mate effectively saved my life by telling me to get the fuck to the doctors the next morning as I had gone grey. (Skin not hair)

Please call out of hours. If you're fine then they will not want to see you and it will only have taken the time of a phone call. [Smile]

Well I passed the lying on my back test! I wish it was as straight forward as calling a sitter - I have a severely disabled child with very special care requirements. My parents are away. A nurse who helps sometimes is 41 weeks pg. Dh is working. I could call him home in an emergency but I'd feel like a fool if I called him home for a bit of wind! I will monitor closely and ring him if it worsens at all.
Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated

Oh gosh, fingers crossed its just wind in that case OP.

Wind won't give you a fever and the post about the lying on your back test actually said it didn't work.

Call out of hours, if they think you need seeing call husband.

I had pain in middle of tummy and it moved to the right. Was also sick and had a temperature feeling clammy.
Rang out of hours, and they requested ambulance.

Blood tests at hospital were positive for infection and inflammation.
So they decided to do keyhole to take it out. When they went inside they said it looked ok but my abdo was full of fluid from a burst cyst on my ovary. Which they believe might have been the pain.
After surgery I felt well again and all obs went to normal.
