I'm going to ask for as much sedation as possible as I am a complete wuss - but I've never had sedation before either so bit worried about how I'll feel afterwards. Please reassure me it'll be fine!!!

You'll be fine! Sedation is like being woozily drunk and it's over really quickly. It is odd when it goes down but there's normally a nice nurse talking and distracting you.

Good luck

Ah you'll be fine, really dont worry. I've had them a couple of times and whilst its a pain and a bit uncomfortable there's nothing to worry about. Good luck x

Thanks! How did you feel afterwards? The hospital is about 45 mins away and although I'll have my sister with me I'm a bit worried about how I'll feel getting home - we have to take the train.

You'll probably feel a bit sleepy and 'funny', but nothing too bad. Hopefully the train won't be busy and you'll get a seat. When you get home have a nice cup of tea and relax for the day

I had it and opted for no sedation even though I am totally petrified of all things medical. Most patients did not have sedation, the one that did went in for the procedure first and left the hospital last as you have to come round and stop rambling before they will let you go!!

Without sedation it really wasn't that bad and you are in and out so much more quickly. The procedure itself is literally no more than 5 minutes absolute maximum, it doesnt hurt at all as they numb your throat with a spray. You wear your own clothes and dont need to wear a gown or anything. The worst part was not the procedure itself but the throat numbness which makes you feel like you are unable to swallow. If you dont have the sedation you walk in and walk out 10 minutes later and thats it.

Hope it all goes well for you! Smile
