General health

My DS keeps getting quite nasty boils. Can anyone think why this might be happening?

He's been checked for diabetes, and it's not that. His health is otherwise good & he keeps himself clean.

But he's got yet another boil - this one behind his ear and its really sore. The last one he had needed two weeks of antibiotics.

He's 16, and has pretty bad acne. Could the two things be related?

Thanks.

Bumping or you- I expect they are related yes. A bath with a little dettol in or a thin layer of Savlon might help kill and surface bacteria that are reinfecting him. Lots if water and cut right back in sugar anecdotally helps. Sunshine is good- if all else fails careful use if sunbeds might be worth the risk.

I would look again at his diet. Not to exclude anything, but making sure he's getting enough vitamins from his food.

I used to get boils when I was a teenager and had acne so I believe they are related. I saw a dermatologist and had roaccutane. Cleared my skin totally - no side effects for me (some people do get side effects).

Thank you :)

He's back on antibiotics for a week, and then he has an appointment with the nurse to have various swabs taken to see if he might be a staph carrier :( They are also going to discuss acne treatments with him.

Will try the bath with Dettol.

I think his diet is reasonable. Heath - lots of fruit, but limited vegetables (peas, sweetcorn & carrots is about it) so I will mention that to the nurse.

Again, thanks.
