you know how you aren't supposed to bother a doctor with a virus.....but what if it might be whooping cough?

happy to be told I'm a hypochondriac on this but....

sore throat, earache and raised temp, slightly swollen glands for about 5 days -it's a virus

however, the sore throat etc has been immeadiately replaced by a continued slight raised temp and a cough which sounds dry/barky, feels phlegmy but not productive, coughing bouts last a minute or more, can't catch breath and left gasping for breath. Been sick a few times after the coughing (sorry too much info) much worse at night and can't breathe lying down. Voice sounds like I have a really sore throat, but I don't -that was last week!

this is just a virus right? slightly concerned, whooping cough going round so I'm being a hypochondriac -no actual whooping sound -more gasping!

DS1 has recently had whooping cough, he's still not right now. I took him to the doctors when he had been coughing for a fortnight and was bringing up,loads of clear phlegm and gasping for breath. He was really, really pale and looked awful, and slept on and off all the time between coughing. He didn't whoop, the GP said not everyone does.

I would go to the GP if I were you. You could have a virus or you could have whooping cough, but you sound poorly. I hope you feel better soon.

I agree you need the doctor. Just ask him/her to listen to your chest because you think you may have a chest infection. That is reason enough because you will need antibiotics if its proven. Get well soon! x
