Can someone please tell me about the aspirins and coke remedy?

I have suffered from really bad headaches for the last few years. GP said they are viral - but at times they have been so bad that I have had to go to bed and quite often I feel sick too. However, they haven't actually been diagnosed as migraines.

So my questions are: does the aspirin/coke remedy really work? How many aspirins with how much coke? And do you think it would work on headaches which aren't actually classed as migraines?

Thanks!

Have you tried anadin extra? It has painkillers and caffeine (i.e the same as aspirin and coke, but with paracetomol and without the pointless calories).

Rancer - no I haven't tried that. Usually I have to have two co-dydramol followed by two nurofen. Even then I still suffer for quite a few hours and sometimes days.

But I just wondered whether the aspirin/coke combination might be more effective.

Are you sure it's not the codydramol causing the headaches in the first place?

I know what you mean Enthusiastic - but I am careful about taking them and only have them when absolutely necessary. Usually when I am trying desperately to get through a day at work! If I could take coke and aspirin it might be better but I don't know anything about that combination.

I haven't tried the coke, but I was prescribe dispersible aspirin to take - and it works best because of how quickly it can get to the pain.
The coke and aspirin is supposed to work because it contains caffeine (aspirin with added caffeine) which reduces blood flow to the brain and stops the headache.
Don't know if the coke bit works though!

I suffer migraines and have used the coke/aspirin combo when caught without my tryptans. It works quite well for me fwiw. I think the sugar is as important ingredient as the caffeine

I get migraines and coke is helpful - I think the sugar, caffeine and bubbles are a bit of a magic combo.

I just use aspirin and it's the only thing that touches my headaches. Not tried it with Coke though.

Caffeine is definately helpful. For me, it eases the urge to puke!
Have you tried Syndol?? Wonder drug. If I take some as soon as I get the triggers, 90% of the time I can keep a major migraine at bay.

I get lots of migraines and yes, the aspirin dissolved in Coke really does work. My GP prescibed 3 aspirin for me, then I read about the coke on line. It was recommended by a professor from the London Migraine Clinic. I use about a 3rd of a can of coke. I was sceptical at first, bit pleasantly surprised when it worked.

I think Asprin as a painkiller is underrated. I had an abscess a few weeks ago, and was rocking in pain. I took Paracetomol, codiene and Tramadol, but they weren't that effective. I took the aspirin and it really helped.

Thank you all for your replies. The information is really useful. It seems as though the coke definitely does do something. I think I will start to carry a bottle of it to work with me just in case.
