Now what - I ( mummy) have caught nits on very long hair?

Ok not funny as mummy has now got nit issue. I get it every time the kids do - so not funny as I have very long hair and it is impossible for me to comb it through myself. Any suggestions? I have used full marks lotion but head still itching and I need to wait a week to reapply lotion again apparently. Someone suggested going to hairdresser and having hair coloured early as I think that this may zap them (anyone know if this will also deal with the eggs or whether they are so strong they can withstand this sort of thing)? i.e. does the nit lotion deal with the eggs or do you actually have to comb every last one out or they will hatch in which case I an a goner. Do you think hair dye alone or so I have to use peroxide. Honestly this is serious - I may have to have hair cut off otherwise. You could try covering your hair with oil (grape seed is not too smelly) then washing and combing it through section by section with a nitty gritty comb while you have the conditioner in, repeat every two days for a ten days, that should get them all without spending loads on full marks etc.

I do my kids every Sunday with the nitty gritty comb and apart from one blip when I got slack at doing it we have not had any nit problems.

If you use tea tree oil conditioner it's supposed to act as a repellent. I use it on dc's and nitty gritty comb once a week. I also use the conditioner myself every time I wash my hair. It seems to do the trick as we've not had any since I started doing this.

I buy just the cheap supermarket own brand but you can get sprays and things that are marketed as nit repellents.

No help right now but as a preventive measure tea tree oil is great. Just add a couple of drops to your shampoo when you wash your/your kids hair.
