had a severe squint since childhood and had several ops to correct and cosmetically it looks pretty good but I still have a lot of associated issues

close my eye when I'm reading
blurred vision as the day goes on
holds book close to me when reading
depth perception is awful
hand eye co-ordination also awful

would there be any benefit to me seeing a BABO or do I just accept that this is my lot?

I'd give it a try

I had a standard lazy eye that corrective surgery buggered up no end and it became an aesthetical nightmare of an external squint, which I lived with and was mocked and bully for for almost 30 years not that I have issues with it or anything as I was told there was nothing more they could do.

I decided, on a whim, about 16 months ago, to see if there was anything that could be done after all these years as I feared it was turning the corner. I was referred to a local ophthalmologist who operated and managed to get it almost straight!

It was supposedly only going to effect my vision as they said my brain would be too trained to change now, but actually my hand eye co-ordination is massively improved. I actually whinged the other day that I'd quite like my childhood back please, as I can hit and catch a ball now!

So yes - I wouldn't say this has to be your lot - go see someone.

You don't need a BO, you need an optician who knows what they are doing with binocular vision disorders, and get yourself some prisms in your glasses. That will take the effort out of maintaining single vision for you.

I had a severe, unstable squint, 2 surgeries, and still have a lot of squint, but the prisms control it perfectly

I don't wear glasses, I actually have perfect vision but not with both eyes at the same time!

I've had 7 ops, most recently was 4 years ago

optician just says my eyesight is fine and my squint will worsen as I get older because that's what they do!

find another optician do you think?

Whereabouts in the country are you? I went here, and can't think of enough good things to say about it www.lazyeyesite.org/aboutus.html
