i am at my wits end
have had herpes for 2 years, primary episode was horrendous but i thought after the first year or so it would get better....
i get an episode at least once a month, i have identified my triggers as stress, tiredness and when im due on my period, being a single mother these things are quite unavoidable
have tried the anti-viral tablets but they give me really bad headaches :(

does anybody have any advice or is in a similar situation...i know herpes is a taboo subject but surely im not the only one who suffers with it!?

Does the stuff you get for cold sores not work ? What about the cold sore machine they sell in boots , it makes the sores heal quicker , perhaps that would work ?

Herpes is same type of virus .

Think you need something to strengthen your immune system . Try vitamins , good diet , something that helped my cold sores ( or at least slowed the amount of outbreaks ) was olive leaf capsules . Expensive though £30 a bottle .

I'm sorry your suffering so much , I hope it clears and gives you some relief soon .

ive tried anti-viral tablets but they give me bad headaches,
its not the actual sores so much mind, although they are irritating,
its more that the nerves in my legs and groin area become so sensitive, very frustrating as it feels like i have a twitch that just wont go away and also feels uncomfortable to sit on a toilet seat (sounds strange but it drives me crazy)
i do take a multivitamin but i will give the olive leaf capsules a try...at this point i am willing to try anything!

Lipizor light reviews said in theory it should work on dermal ang genital herpes .but they had no clinical trial for that

You can get them from boots , amazon for around £30

Have you tried taking an allergy tablet during an attack ? Might help with the irritation ?

I used to get a mouthfull every month - now I hardly ever get any. So although a different strain there is no reason why this shoudln't work for you.

It was a mulit pronged attack!

  • The antivirals - tolerate them. Just do it. Maybe 3-6 months of a lowish dose every single day. Maybe a lower dose won't give you the headaches. Take brufen for the headache. This will dampen the virus down. If, whilst I was on the low dose I felt the tingle, I would max out the dose to ensure it never took hold.

At the same time take L-lysine as it reduces the viral replication. www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=117 Really* works. Love it. There was something else I took at the same time but I'm jiggered if I can remember.....it was to help absorb.....it'll come to me.

  • Use the light thingie from Boots. It's essentially the same virus so no reason why it shouldn't work.

  • If you can bear it, use an alcohol swab for the actual sores. Dries them out in no time. A pre-injection swab is ideal and can be bought at a chemist in bozes of little individual ones.
  • Once dry, I would then use a fucidin antibiotic cream as such sores are very likely to have a bacterial colony as well as viral. That's true for the mouth so no reason any where else would be different. This then helps the actual sore heal up much quicker.

Ask your GP for all this, do not take no for an answer.

Yessss.

ZInc. Helps with something or other. Maybe reducing viral replication along with the lysine. Take a tonne. High dose Vit C too.

Yes yes to anti histamine to reduce the nervy type pain - I know exactly what you mean. I can't bear my hair touching my face.

You should eat lots of tomatoes for extra lysine and cut out coffee and chocolate and coke. A chemical I can't remember the name of can be a trigger.....that'll come to me too.......

Arginine!! I am on fire! Grin

Avoid arginine rich foods.

I did this in 2000-2001 and I went from monthly coldsores to 1-2 a year. Honestly.
