Stabbing pain up rectum and vagina

liverLadyLass · 19/05/2012 21:22

Does anyone know what this could be, I was doubled in two this morning in pain, I've never had it before,
I couldn't sit down as the pain was awful,
I've pain in the lower abdomin and lower back,
Pain just above my pubic area, which is tender when touched,
I've stabbing shooting pain up through my vagina and my rectum,
I was dizzy and felt I was going to pass out, when I tried to do the toilet,
It's hurt to go to the toilet and I had to squeeze to pee,as if I was passing a stool.
I've had a kidney infection which I was on an antibiotic for,
I've a constant pressure feeling above my pubic area,
It's settled down but it's still sore to sit on my bum and the pressure feeling is still there,
Can anyone help??

Aww, you poor thing. It sounds exactly like I do when I have and IBS flare up so it may be your colon going into spasm. If I were you I'd ring NHS direct and a nurse will be able to check and reassure you that it's nothing serious and don't have to go to A&E. I'd go and see your doctor on Monday morning - say it's an emergency if they can't fit you in.

I think a bad uti/kidney infection could explain your symptoms but not sure if it would account for stabbing pains up your bum. When did you finish the antibiotics? Have you tested clear for a uti since then, if not I'd get a urine sample tested ASAP.

I used to get stabbing pains up my bum from endometriosis.

IBS attack and hemorrhoids flare up at the same time possibly, the stabbing pain brought back some unhappy memories to me!
Drink pints of water, take painkiller if possible and get to a doc to check if piles causing it.

I have had the awful stabbing pain up the bum that you talk of...I was dreadfully constipated. Once I'd manage to go to the loo...the pain subsided.

It's not anything like appendix is it? Not suggesting it is, but sounds like you need to rule anything dangerous out.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

That sounds like endometriosis or IBS love. I'd book an appointment with the doctor if I were you. But in the mean time please phone NHS direct - I don't want us to be trivialising something serious...but I don't want to worry you.

Unfortunately, tests for IBS and Endo aren't that simple. First, off I would go in to see he with an open mind. Perhaps, make a list of all the things that make you feel out of sorts, I would deffo include the pain during sex bit as that isn't 'normal'. I perhaps wouldn't mention any mumsnet diagnosis's as the Doctor will take the course of action they feel is necessary and I would go with them....obviously if it's not what they think it is then it may be worth asking about other things. I hope you find out what wrong with you...I've been struggling through for the past 2 years with illness and have only just been diagnoses so I understand the pain.

That's good (that no chance that you're pregnant, not that it's too painful Sad) Didn't want to scare you but I asked as I had very similar symptoms with a ruptured ectopic. Hope you get on well on Monday and the pain eases.

Thanks very much,
I think I will write everything down for the doctor to see,
Should I mention these other possible Conditions to her,
I read the link thank you, it seems possible to be this also,
How could they determine which it is.,,?
Thanks for all your help...

Speaking from experience I would not go to the doctor with a list of possibilities. You can make your symptoms fit any self diagnosis and become dissatisfied with what the doctor is diagnosing and therefore prolong a misdiagnosis.
But defiantly write down your symptoms...they may have crept up over time...little things like opening your bowels too often or not enough, pain when peeing etc.
For your own knowledge:
IBS - will be diagnosed by on going treatment by a gastroenterologist - it's a case of trial and error to find triggers but they can give you tablets to ease the symptoms.
Endometriosis - will need a laparoscopy - however, if you don't have other symptoms such as problem periods or difficulty conceiving it is unlikely to be this.
Please don't try to over think things...trust your doctor when you see them.

I would have a urine test done asap to see if the UTI is still there. That would not necessarily account for the shooting pains up your bottom (that can also happen with endometriosis).

I would go to the GP asap and explain all that has happened to you including the painful sex (also another possible indicator of endometriosis).

Your case warrants further investigation; do not put up with this whatever you do. Also you will need to be persistant in order to get answers. You should also be referred to a gynaecologist.

Yyy re persistence. I don't have (much) endo by do have pelvic congestion syndrome which, while nothing like what you're describing, did need me to keep going back to the GP for a year, do pain diaries and have ultrasound scans and a laparoscopy to get a diagnosis. And to keep going in the face of GPs trying to fob me off with things like, "Oh, everyone has to deal with a certain amount of pain,".

Deffo go with list of symptoms but actually I found saying, "Can you rule out xyz?" rather than "Do you think it's abc?" gets docs' backs up less but still puts conditions on the table for discussion. Also, find out about tests for things it could be and ask, "Would a laparoscopy be appropriate?" or "What further testing might be useful at this point?" for example. Docs don't like people googling ailments but it is your body and there's nothing wrong with being well-informed.

If the pain has gone now it could be a cyst that got knocked or popped. It sounds like my symptoms - I was considering calling an ambulance!

hi guys thanks for your replies,,Smile
it's not came today although I thought it was a one point,
I still have gone for a poo but that's normal for me, I still feel like I'm squeezing for to do a pee,, then a sharp pain,, no much just a little,,
I have these tablets for spasms and wonder if this could be helping?
I'm on a kidney antibiotic, and it's quite strong, also an anti inflammatory,
I feel sick from time to time also,
I've had a preg test done and it's clear,

I think i will take a list of my symptoms with me as I tend to forget with nerves, (suffer with anxiety)
the doc I saw at the weekend was really nice, he read me like a book, told me I look as if I've just ‘got on with it' for so long, which was correct,
my doc is new and easy to talk to, I've never felt comfortable with any of the doctors in my surgery before,
only her,
I'm so fed up know, I've known something has been wrong for a while but every swab or blood test has came back clear?
I'm at a point I was this MRI done know to rule any possibilities out including cancer,
I thought I was just one of those people who suffered with back pain but know I'm thinking that the back pain was the start,,
the pressure has eased off to, I thought my insides were falling out my body at one stage lol.,,,
I'm just sick of being in pain and discomfort at the age of 28 isn't right is it?
I will let you know how it goes tomorrow wish me luck x

hi guys,
went to the doctors,
found out that she is not 100% sure, but thinks I may have a blockage, a kidney stone in the tubes that carry the urine from my kidneys to my bladder,
she's sending me for a ultrasound scan to determine if it is or not, she has said that she know something is not right as I've hardly ever been to the doctors and all of a sudden there are more and more symptoms,
my blood results say there is no damage to my kidneys and my urine is clear?
so she's going to rule out possible possibilities,, which I'm feeling relieved for, I told her I felt as tho I was being a pain and that I was a hypercondriact, she put my mind to rest with that,

then! she tells me she finally got my letter back from the hospital for my coloposcopy, and that the doctor there says I should be seen urgently and that the doctor could not have made it any clearer?
I told her that I did try and find out why I hadn't been for the biopsy yet,as the doctor said if I didn't hear from them in two weeks I need to find out why,so when I did they told me to stop worrying and that it was just a routine appointment,
my doctor was furious,, she'd said the reason I saw the doctor in the hospital was to confirm what she was saying was correct (and it was a hospital miles away)
and that I'm supposed to go to my nearest hospital for them to do the same thing?
she then said that she personally was going to contact them and find out why I haven't been seen yet?
I've to get a cone biopsy taken from my cervix as there has been changers in the cells quite a few times on my smear and I've a large Erosion which causes me pain with or without sex and I also bleed after sex,, my periods are all over the place too,
so I'm thinking something is obviously not right, and I'm so annoyed that if there IS something there, with all the messing around they have done and years I've been going to the doctors with the same problems, I dread to think!
I'm just glad I've found a doctor who does not see her patients as a number,

by chance could there be cancer cells?
as this is the first thing that comes to mind ,and is this why the specialist is insisting I be seen ASAP?

Okay, first things first, you have a great doc there and she is clearly going to bat for you. I am really impressed with that and it should be the way you were treated all along. Good news re kidneys, definitely.

On the rest of it, I have no idea and no medical knowledge that i didn't google, but I have all my digits crossed for you. Please let us know, know how it goes.

so I went for a scan,
I had two appointments for the same thing typical NHS,
I was referred to a different hospital and they didn't cancel the first one they gave me?
the scan was just of my kidneys but the letter I had was a full bladder?
hospital was lovely but didn't say anything, just that I could leave know,,
so presuming all is ok Hmm

I've finally got an appointment for a coloposcopy on the 22nd of this month Confused and they are doing a cone biopsy which I'm a bit concerned about but greatfull that something is finally getting done,,
the specialist I saw had told me I was to be seen straight away, and my doctor also could not understand why as she showed me the letter the specialist had sent her back, I told her the hospital has told me it was just routine appointment, she told me to leave it with her and she would contact them herself and phone me back which she didn't?Hmm
I'm seriously considering going private, I'm full of stress wondering what the hell is wrong with me,
the pill she gave me was making me a nasty piece of work so I've stopped taking it, I don't think my hubby could take much more,
I see her on thurs before she goes on holiday for two weeks,

I have very similar symptoms and I have fibroids - one being very large and pressing down on the whole abdomen/lower back area, also have endometriosis. Fibroids can apparently grow during pregnancy. Look up the symptoms of fibroids and endometriosis and see if u can relate to any of them. It's very common.

Liverladylass, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I’ve been getting these same symptoms, excruciating pain in my rectum/vagina/lower abdomen, can’t sit or try to go to the toilet and feel dizzy and faint. I’ve been getting occasional episodes of it for a couple of years now.

Ovulation pain? Sounds weird but I get stabbing pains up my vagina and rectum when I'm ovulating. Feels like my insides are going to fall out. Goes away after a few hours but can be excruciatingly painful. Someone once said on here it's like having a pineapple shoved up your arse which is a pretty fair description to me !
