Ok, am not medical but common sense tells me that if you do that it may become infected. Think you need anti biotics to get rid of it. To get rid of the pain tonight, clove oil ? Gin? Lots of Nurofen plus? If rubbing gin on it doesn't work, drink the gin and get so drunk you can't feel it...presuming you are not pregnant !!!!

You need antibiotics and you need to go to a dentist. You can get severe blood poisoning from abscesses on the gum.

My dentist put me on antibiotics when I had an abscess under a tooth.

When I had an abcess, I got it sorted initially by the emergency out-of-hours dentist at the local hospital who was able to relieve the pain, then I saw my own dentist a few days later who treated it properly and prescribed antibiotics....can't remember the name of the ABs but I remember being strictly instructed not to drink alcohol with them.

I had this once and I popped it, just by applying pressure.

I think if you have amoxicillin, that's what the dentist would prescribe or sometimes metronidazole if infection has spread. I would take the anti-b's just to get them in my system whilst waiting for dentist appt.

Sorry you are having such a nightmare, I would keep going with the clove oil (cotton wool, soaked, hold onto abscess ). If that didn't work I would go painkiller route, what have you got handy?

I popped mine recently just by pressing on it. It's no real different to a spot or a boil that is on the skin. Dentist told me I had done the right thing and then gave me antibiotics to clear up any remainder. The sense of relief and also perverse pleasure was immense and the pain vanished.

I say go for it and keep pressing until it bleeds cleanly.

I feel for you redglow. Nothing worse than dental pain imo

Best pus porn ever bursting a huge abscess on a tooth.
However, I eventually lost the tooth.
Get ye to the dentist.

Nnnnooo don't just pop it, try rinsing your mouth with hot (not boiling hot) salt water, if its about to burst, it will with the heat - while the salt will act as an antiseptic.
Make sure you spit the crap out if it bursts, and if it then starts bleeding rinse with cold water.

You need to see a dentist asap. I had a pusy spot on my gum and it indicated that the nerve had died and needed a root canal filling.

This will tell you the safest way to drain an abcess along your gumline; and you should be on or get on Anti-biotics immediately and must eventually see a dentist either way. It also gives a couple of non-envasive ways to bring the abcess to a head on its own; these methods are below the instructions for lancing.
