Just got my appointment to have this operation. Does anyone have any experience of it? What's the recovery period like? Anything I should be doing to prepare? Thanks.

Hi TitsforBrains

Had a lap sub total hyst last Thursday. Out of hospital on Friday. Had VERY bad shoulder pain and also under my ribs from the air they pump into you. I managed to walk round the block on Sunday, round 2 blocks yesterday and for half an hour alone - although very slowly - today.

The trapped air pain has pretty much gone now. I did drink loads of peppermint tea which is pretty yuk but deffo helped. I am feeling well on the way to recovery but I do know I need to take it easy. I'm VERY bored now as I'm used to being on the go constantly with 4 teenagers in the house!

First bowel movement wasn't half as bad as I'd thought it was going to be and no wee problems either (I've been having to self-catheterise on and off since March) which is brilliant.

I had my op as I had a 'large' fibroid which ahd taken over my womb and tubes so I'm hoping to feel like a new woman once it's all healed.

Oh and I have a definite case of 'swelly belly' too but the 4 'holes' are looking clean and stitches nice and neat and healthy so should have no problem with them either.

All in all, I was pretty nervous/worried about my op too but it's actually been OK when you consider what they've done inside me.

Good luck for your op and please don't hesitate to ask any other questions as/when they arise.
xx
