Any experiences of the mini pill..?

I have read it is more suitable then the ordinary pill for older women ( I qualify there!) and for health reasons I cant take oestrogen related stuff anyway. But I cant seem to find many references, good or bad, about women's experiences of it. Anyone out there who can comment...? TIA!

I was quite happy on it for years. Then I got pregnant. It is not foolproof, if that's what you're after.

Crikey! Yes, had read it wasn't foolproof. Hope that worked out ok for you in the end.

I have been on it for years with only a couple of periods and no unwanted pregnancies. I use cerazette (there are lots of threads on here about it as there can be side effects) and havent had issues with it.

I'm on the mini-pill (Micronor) after having a lot of side effects with the combined pill. I've not had any side effects or unwanted pregnancies with the mini-pill so far.

I had fortnightly periods with both femulen and micronor (different types of mini-pill) which is why I ended up with cerazette.

Tried micronor for a few months but had near constant bleeding and felt very tetchy.

I took Cerazette for 2 years. I seem to be one of the few people who had fairly regular periods while on it, although they were very light. It worked very well as a contraceptive...mainly because I would rather have had root canal work than sex Hmm

Stopped taking it just over 3 months ago and am pregnant now so I know there has been no long term impact on my cycle from taking it.

Like Garrotting I was on Cerazette for 2 years and had zero sex drive for the whole time. No periods either though, so that was a boon! Since coming off it I've been like a horny rabbit [hwink]

I was on it a couple of times for a year or so. No side effects, but because I knew it was less reliable and that you have to take the pill very regularly it made me paranoid - I used to wake up sweating in the night unable to remember whether I'd taken it. Implant is worth considering because it's the same drug but with no danger of forgetting a dose. In the end we went for vasectomy - is that something you could consider?

I've been on femulen / cerazette since I was 17 (Im now 30) for health reasons.

I had periods lasting aprox 2 days - compared to my usual 5 if I'm not on the pill - but this only happens maybe 3/4 times a year. I have some weight gain, but that could just be old age creeping up on me. Oh, and didn't affect my sex drive as such, but I did find it harder to orgasm. Sorry if tmi!

Most importantly though, I am now pregnant (was on the pill) and have had 2 miscarriages over the last 13 years, so def not foolproof.

Hope this helps!

I was on cerazette for about 5 months. This may be tmi but I was told that it works by thickening the mucus at the neck of the womb to create a barrier. This meant that I had a lot of discharge. I suppose the mucus had to go some where. Made me very uncomfortable then I got pg. So it wasn't very good for me

Pregnancy would not be good so thats put me off given its happened to a couple of you. TBH I was also hoping it might also help with horrendous PMT I get since I read it can make periods less frequent etc but not worth the gamble!

If avoiding pg is your top priority and full pill is contraindicated then your options are male/female sterilisation, implant/injection, coil (which has its own problems and is not fool proof), mini pill + something else (condoms, rhythm method, diaphragm).

If you're getting on a bit then I'd seriously consider sterilisation.

I was on cerazette (posted on this about a year ago) and bled continuously, came off it after the bleeding got really heavy and scary. Not for everyone but you never know how it's going to be until you try.

I had Micronor many years ago and put on one dress size per month until stopping it having gone from a 12 to an 18 in 3 months. Came off it and went straight back down again with very little effort (wish I could do that now!)

I was on Cerazette for nearly 10 years. Not a single period nor any problems (although I have read that people do). I think you just need to try the options out for yourself and see what works for you.
