ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON THE SAFETY OF BLOOD, TISSUES & ORGANS PUBLIC MEETING 11TH OCTOBER 2011 - LONDON

(1 Post)
Beaaware Fri 07-Oct-11 14:52:18

This public meeting is open to the general public to attend and ask questions on the "Patient Consent to blood transfusion", as many of you know patients are not given timely information about the risks involved in blood transfusions (one of those risks being vCJD, this is on all blood bag labels).
This public meeting which only seems to appear on the DOH's website http:www.dh.gov.uk/ab/SaBTO/index.htm?ssSourceSiteId=en
starts at 10.00am on Tuesday 11th October at Skipton House, 80 London Road, London, SE1 6LH.
Here are a few of experts you can ask questions to:

Professor John Forsythe, Chair of SaBTO

Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, Deputy Chief Medical Officer & NHS Medical Director Dept of Health.

This public meeting will focus on the importance of patients giving valid consent for a blood transfusion. SaBTO has been considering the issue of such consent, including current practice in hospitals, how consent might be sought and what information patients would find helpful.
