Mirena Coil

Hi there

Can anyone share their experiences of the coil with me? I used the combined pill for years but have had to stop due to my migraines with aura. Tried the mini pill and hated it. Lots of bleeding and low moods.

Just wondered if anyone else has not got on with the mini pill but found the coil was not a problem?

if I had read and asked info on the internet I wouldnt never have got one..but I did and its been fab, best thing I did

You cant really listen to others because its different for everyone. Think its a case of giv eit and try and see if it works for you, if not, have it removed

Yes good point Anniebear. I have just had such a rubbish time on the mini pill I wasn't sure if there was any point trying the mirena as they are the same hormone.

Just spoilt after years on Cilest with no problems I think.

I went on to Cilest after I had ds2 (had been on the other pill up until ttc ds2), and it turned me into a bit of a psycho, to be honest. So I decided to try the coil (mirena). Ds1 has Spina Bifida, so I needed something very reliable (unlike me and my ability to remember to take a pill!!). Anyway, I've had the Mirena coil since 2007, and after an initial 6-9 months of very dodgy, unreliable periods, I would say it's the best thing I ever did. I have no problems at all - and I will get it replaced when my 5 years is up (even though the whole 'insertion' process is quite unpleasant, the result is far more favourable than taking the pill!!)

I get bad migraines, btw, so this was really the only option still open to me. So it's a bit of a relief that it's worked out so well. Hth!!
