Holistic dentistry versus "standard"

Hi
I am wondering whether anyone has any experience of this? I have a cracked tooth that I am going to see an NHS dentist about on Thursday. I have a feeling the filling inside it might be leaking as it tastes strange and as the crack has widened that must have exposed previously unexposed filling.
When NHS dentists remove fillings do they take some of the precautions holistic dentists claim they do? Looking at websites it seems there are a whole host of these. Do you think it is better to accept it is going to cost a lot more and go to a holistic dentist?
I am also having some weird other symptoms which are probably unrelated to the tooth (my thread is about feeling numb down the left side of my body though that has gone away) including smelling a very weird mouldy sweet smell all the time, so am feeling really sensitive about the way in which my tooth might be handled and what effect that could have on my health (ie. lots of mercury fumes escaping etc...).
Thank you Smile.

go to a normal dentist and check to see if you have a infection. dont delay, if you do have a untreated infection it cound go in to yr jaw bone, and getting that sorted is not fun.

I would be more worried about an infection than mercury fumes, go to a proper dentist. I had a strange taste in my mouth along with tooth ache and the dentist said it was on the way to being gangerous.

Thank you. I did go to a proper dentist yesterday and he could find no infection but I am going back on friday to have the filling in the cracked tooth replaced in the hope that this will stop it hurting when I eat on it.
Thank you for your answers Smile.
