Periods returning after breastfeeding, I've been bleeding on and off for two weeks, is this normal?

I don't remember what happened last time. I had one mini period a few weeks ago I think, then two weeks ago started bleeding again, very lightly and only for a couple of days, then after a break of 2 or 3 days started again. Since then it keeps getting lighter and I think it's tailing off, then getting heavier again. When it's lighter it's sort of like lochia, like pink tinged discharge rather than proper period blood. What's going on?

Obv you need to see your doc for a real diagnosis, but my first period after bfing went on and off and on, very lightly (just like you) for about 5 weeks. I ignored it, then got fed up, then freaked out and went to see the doc.
She prescribed something called tranexamic acid (sp?) and it stopped the bleeding within 5 days, then my periods were normal thereafter.

I'm not sure what it was all about but the doc seemed very unfussed.

wem that sounds just like me.... and I also cant remember what happened last time. I think this is pretty normal tho after stopping bf. I didnt have any bleeding atall while i was and gave up about a month ago and have pretty much been bleeding on and off for about the last 2 weeks. Someone said to me yesterday that it can sometimes take up to a year for your cycle to sort itself out... jesus.... if worried tho should see your gp.

Thanks. Actually, I haven't stopped breastfeeding yet, just stopped feeding at night, which was the cue for my periods to return last time too, so I'm guessing it's connected. So, I suppose my options for medication are limited, but I'll go to the gp if it carries on for much longer. I'll be fed up if it goes on for as long as 5 weeks though!

Speak to your doc - I seem to remember the tranexamic acid was fairly innocuous stuff, no warnings on the packet sort of thing.
