My ds was diagnosed last week with his 3rd chest infection since xmas (infact the 1st at xmas was a pneumonia in the left lung). He then had one in the easter hols and the doctor decided to refer him to hospital, we still haven't got the appt through and then last week he got another one, although i think we may have caught it early ashe doesn't seem so poorly with this one, his chest is rattling like crazy tho.

Anyway we are now finished day 5 of the antibiotics and although he seems ok, his chest sounds awful still and he still needs his blue inhaler (diagnosed for exercise induced asthma and including colds etc). He got a stronger dose of amoxycillan this time but I don't think it's clearing yet (and am not convinced it was totally clear after the 1st and 2nd ones !)

We are apparently due to be seen at hospital around mid July, so is it worth going back this week if he's still wheezing or just wait for the referral ?

Thanks
Mandy.

well am completely non-medically qualified, but I would say if he's still having trouble breathing after finishing the antibiotics then yes, he should go back to GP. and also worth phoning the hospital to double check referral has been received and processed, or that appoitnment letter hasn't been lost in post.

Go back, he may well need a more specific antibiotic or some oral steroids to kick the wheeze into touch.

Smudge (mum to 2 chronic asthmatics who knows exactly where you are coming from)
