I started to feel unwell Christmas day and ended up with the flu, stuck in bed could hardly move due to pain in limbs etc I have been taking cold and flu tablets was feeling a lot better by wednesday just past.

I have uni work to do and went there on Thursday but I only managed 1 hour before I had to go home to lie down as I felt so awful, managed a few more hours yesterday but today I have been stuck in my bed, my whole body aches, I have a fever and have had to take pain meds all day. Also for the past week everytime I eat I have diarrhoea so I can't eat without running to the toilet.

any ideas why I am still so sick? I have to go to work on Monday and at the moment it seems so unlikely, I just want to feel better :(

Flu is really really nasty, usually you are looking at 2 weeks of being ill and then at least another 2 weeks of feeling weak and needing to recover.

I would make a gp appointment and consider being signed off sick or are reduced hours. You need to recover and look after yourself if you rush back to work etc too soon you are risking getting some sort of post-viral fatigue type condition that may take you months to recover from.

Sorry to be so negative Sad

Hi there - dp and I started with flu around December 10th/11th and we're still not 100%. Much better and back at work but definitely still not 'right'. It's taken ages to get our energy back and it took days at the time for temperatures to start coming down. Nightmare - just try and take it easy and keep taking paracetamol every four hours and lots of fluids.

Start taking multi vitamins and taking care of yourself etc will hopefully speed up the recovery a little.

aww sorry you've been so ill marshmallow. wondering if it is swine flu as you are getting diarrhoea?

i've been poorly for 11 days now with a flu virus that has been VICIOUS. i was taking cocodamol in the end (alternating with ibuprofen) for the joint/muscle pain, which made me very spaced but at least I could sleep - didn't sleep for the first 5 days

really gets you down being stuck in and it going on for ever and being so painful. Have you spoken to your GP? pharmacist? they can give you some really good advice about what to do, meds to take.

take care - hope we're both feeling better soon!

LM - 'proper flu' or swine flu takes this long to get over- sorry - it's crap I know! You will just have to be patient and let your poor body recover! Grin.
