Pain between my ribs after pregnancy?

Since having my baby 3 months ago I have had a pain in the centre of the bottom of my ribs (think just under the breastbone). It feels like when you "twang" your neck iykwim or like someone is pushing my ribs together. Funny thing is I never had any problems with my ribs during pregnancy.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Is there anything I can do to help get rid of it?

HI Didn't want your post to go unanswered. I didn't have rib pain when I was pregnant, but my ribcage expanded a lot. It took about 6 months after birth for mine to 'shrink' back down again, and I felt quite tender too.
I'd get checked out though if you are concerned, it's better to get checked. Maybe someone will be along soon who can relate more? I was advised by my physio that it can take 6months roughly for hormones to return to normal levels after childbirth. My hormones made my pelvis very loose, so I reckoned that all ligaments in my body were affected too, including perhaps those that hold my ribcage together?

I had this, but it was a couple of days after giving birth. It was really quite painful for a few days. Consensus of the medical profession was that it was just my ribcage reverting to normal position after 9 months of having a baby jammed under it.

Get it checked out if it is bothering you, but as indigo says it can take a while for things to settle down (especially if you are breastfeeding which "delays" your body's return to normal).

Hi all..I just wondered if anyone else has experienced anything similar? Basically my baby is 13 weeks old.. ever since she was born, my ribs are tender when i touch them. Mainly my left rib right under my breast.. but sometimes the right one too..

Has anyone ever had this? It only hurts when they're touched? Thanks in advance!

Hi, is it the space in between the ribs that hurts? Does it hurt more around your sternum? Could be costochondritis if that is the case - inflammation of the rib cartilage. Can also cause pain in back, front of shoulders etc.

Hi!
I know this is an old thread I just wondered if anyone had any answers? My daughter is 2 months old and the bottom/middle of my ribs are quite tender but only to touch. I had a lot of rib pain during pregnancy and my ribs stuck out a bit even before pregnancy and more so during (I swore I look like I had gills) just wondering if it was because of them trying to slot back into place?

Thanks in advance if anyone see’s this :)

I am 8 years post birth and to this day still have pain under my left rib cage. The doctor thinks that my muscle separated and scar tissue had buildup. Many months of physical therapy. I still feel the scar tissue build up and I have to manually go under my ribs and break it up. I think it will be with me forever

Me!! My son is two years old (!) and if I squash my ribs by leaning over too far, they’re mega tender, never happened before. I’m assuming they’ve been pushed out of position by him and still never made it back. They don’t hurt to press and not visibly sticking out but every now and then if I squash them in a particular way - ouch!!
