Suggestions for this cough before I turn inside out?

Had a common/garden cold a week or so ago. Now have a horrible hacking (productive - yuck) cough. Comes and goes in severity but I haven't slept a night through in the last 10 nights.
I really don't think it's a chest infection. No other symptoms and I feel fine apart from these coughing spasms.
It's driving me bonkers and scaring the dc.
Any suggestions?

Manuka honey

Tis expensive - but works!

You'll never use cough mixture again....

Try breathing steam with lavender essential oil to ease it. One teaspoon of organic cider vinegar 3-4 times a day can be helpful. You can mix it or chase it down with honey. But if the cough is not significantly better a week or two after the cold is over, you ought to get checked over by the GP.

as it is productive I don't think suppressing it is a good idea, so you need something that makes it easier to cough. Steam might help as prettycandles says.

slight hijack - when you say manuka honey, how do you take it - like medicine off a spoon or in a drink?

I take Manuka honey straight off the spoon, it has a nice taste. Stronger than regular honey. Buy the strongest one you can afford.

You can (and I have) use Manuka on wounds, cuts, burns etc. Its fabulous stuff.

Re the cough. How long have you been coughing? More than the 10 nights? Most coughs are self limiting and will clear themselves but it can take weeks. If you are short of breath, wheezy or the mucus is green/yellow then its best to be checked over by the GP.

Get better soon.

I have something similar. For the third time since August. So I gave in and went to doc yesterday. She said it is a chest infection. I have no other symptoms other than the cough and a croaky voice.

Now have antibiotics, probiotics and something to boost my immune system.

Thanx all. Slept through last night but still hacky this morning. Will go out for manuka honey shortly.
I don't think it is an infection - 'product' is white if anything, not green/yellow and in myself I feel fine between coughs.
However, agreed with dh to go to GP Thurs if no better. He and the dc are wincing every time I cough!

Oh the manuka honey is marvellous. Not a honey lover, so my face is a picture during ingestion but it does work..I wonder how.
I think I am on the mend. I can breath all the way in without spluttering.
However, now ears have popped and won't unpop. But I've just spent 3 hours in a school governors' meeting so they may just be protesting at all the rbbish they've had to listen to.

Smile

I find it tastes more like a treacle than a honey
but I like both so not a problem Grin
