I currently trying to organise a long weekend away for a large group of friends and our kids (14 adults 9 kids). I have found a couple of sites specialising in large properties and made a couple of availability requests already but I would be interested to hear of any recommendations anyone may have.

I noticed Helpful Holidays had quite a few larger properties in the SW - very good company to book through.

Oh yeah, should have specified...... somewhere South(ish) like Devon, Dorset, Cotswolds, Somerset

There's a website with domain in the title - can't find it right now, will keep trying. Haven't used them but I found it whilst looking for a place for dsis's 40th. The YHA rent a hostel scheme is an alternative out of season.

It's sorry can't do links. As I say, I've not used them so can't recommend but they seem to have a good choice.

Hidays seem to do a lot of biggies

Great - hadn't seen those sites. They look like they will throw up some good possibilities.

English Country Cottages used to have some huge ones (haven't looked for years).

here . "No. in party" only goes up to 20 but they always have lots of groups of cottages in the same place (eg barn conversion things) that would do too - might be worth ringing them to ask what they've got.

Oooh I want this place.. can't wait to enquire tomorrow! Can just see us all in the hot tub!

Landmark Trust have some big properties on their books. We went to a fab one in Devon a few years back - there must have been over 14 adults there iirc.

How about Hooke Court ?

Roobie Mon 08-Aug-05 23:41:47

Would have been ideal Jan but no availability in November

How about this one with toddlers??

Janh Mon 08-Aug-05 23:51:28

Do try ringing ECC, Roobie - you might be able to take over most of a whole complex for a weekend? Or does it really have to be a single large property so you can all muck in?

I'll get busy tomorrow - loads of new ideas here, thanks everyone. Ideally I would like one large property - I just need to work out the bedroom permutations required.

There are 2 singletons going so I want them to have their own rooms rather than sharing a twin as they usually end up doing (not that they mind but it seems as though they are always being penalised for being single somehow!). Would probably need a 19 person property I think as 4 of the children are small babies so are unlikely to count as a "person".

Newton Manor House, Swanage - actual beds for 19 (if I counted right) plus 3 travel cots.

Looks pretty booked up though...

Ring them up! They might have a new one that isn't on the website yet!
