DH may get posted to Oz for six months sometime at the end of next year. Had vaguely been having thoughts about having another baby which would then be born out there...does anyone know what the rules are about healthcare in Oz? As in, how much does it cost etc?
DH has a university post, so no big company benefits and relocation package sadly! grin

There is a national health service but it is quite different from the NHS, and you may want to look at private medical insurance. Try looking at one of the big providers (eg: MBF Australia) to see the kind of costs and the waiting periods (you won't be covered instantly). You even have to pay for the ambulance service in Australia - see here

HI there,
the health care system is very different to the NHS and most people obtain private health insurance. However, there are usually time limitations that apply to be able to access the maternity benefits and from memory it is usually one year so you need to check before you agree to purchase the insurance. You may not be eligible if you are only there for 6months and may need to go through the public system. Royal Women's Hospital is a good public hospital there...
