Want to go for a couple of nights in 2 weeks time

Online quote I have been given is £132!!! (For return ferry journey with 4 passengers and a car)

Is there a cheaper way?!

THat does seem a bit expensive. Maybe as it's peak time?

notnowbernard Sun 19-Jul-09 17:15:33

It's mid-week and can be flexible about travelling times

I'm shock

Unless you can borrow chitty chitty bang bang, there's not many other options. wink

Think it was £93 when went with my Dad last time, so 2 ad 2 kids 1 car.
Just looked for us in Aug funnily enough; 1 ad 2 kids foot passengers... £10.50 grin

I seriously wondered if I was looking in the wrong place... is there a cheaper ferry company or something?

What do the Islanders do?

Who were you looking with? We go with Red Funnel when we go to Bestival...

Will have a look Martin, thanks

Have thoroughly looked, and think that for the length of time we're going (+ B+B costs) it's really not worth it

I think it is the most expensive crossing of any bit of water anywhere - (I heard that somewhere grin)

are you going from Southampton? They seem to be advertising it a lot cheaper at the moment

Probably too late for you Notnowbernard, but we've just been over for a day trip and got a fare that was way cheaper than the inconsistent confusing fares I was quoted by the Wightlink website. The secret? Pick up the phone and speak to a REAL person - friendly and helpful. I like £35 return for 2 adults, 1 car and 1 small person, as opposed to the £70 the website said at first and the £149 it told me subsequently! Great day out, will be going back for a week next year.

It's very expensive in the summer, less so out of season. We went for new year and it was about £40 for the ferry for 2 people and a car I think.

But yes definitely don't do it online, do it by phone or buy on the day (disadvantage of this is you have no warning of the price)

Oh and as for what islanders do - they get a discount! wink

We did it with tesco clubcard vouchers - did not cost us anything!
