Birmingham - Cambridge by rail?

Does anyone use this line? Do you know whether the trains have laptop power sockets or are they not that new? Trying to work out whether if I take the train rather than driving, I can redeem the time by doing some work.

I've only done it once and didn't see any sockets - trains definitely not that new.

Drive - I do this regularly, the train is uncomfortable slow and stops everywhere and seems to loop via Newcastle (OK slight exageration but it is not the most direct route as it does take a loop as far up as leicester and peterborough). With a fair wind the drive will take you 1.5 hours, the train will take you 3 hours and is subject to frequent delays.
