I went to Skiathos about 12 yrs ago. You can fly direct. It is a lovely green island with an old harbour town called Skiathos Town funnily enough . There was a beech called Banana Beach which was do nudists. Didn't try it myself though did have a peek. Lovely sandy beaches as I recall. I really liked it and would go again.

I went pre kids and loved it - stayed in rooms and ate souvlaki every night - it was about 9 years ago so not really qualified to comment now. I do like Greece in general. Where are you thinking of staying?

You can fly to Skiathos, as I am sure you are aware, pretty hairy landing though as it is such a small island and cannot take the huge jumbos. We stayed in Troulos which is near the main town and airport (although not long transfers regardless of where you are staying) and loved the beach and walking down the cobbled streets at night sampling all the restaurants. You can also get boat rides from here to other beaches on the island or to a small island opposite. Koukounari is at the far end of the island so gets less traffic, is more commercialised, has the best beach but lacks the sleepy fishing village atmosphere with the marvellous fish tavernas that Troulos has. The only downside to Troulos is the busy main road that runs through the middle of it. Car hire is worth it for a couple of days only, the island is far too small to warrant one for longer.

You cannot fly directly to Skopelos and would have to fly into Skiathos and get a boat from there. Both island are pretty similar to be honest although Skopelos is probably quieter due to not having an airport. A compromise would be to base yourselves in Skiathos and take a boat trip over (approx 2 hours each way) and either come back the same day or get accommodation there overnight.

Skiathos is without doubt our favourite Greek destination and well worth a visit.

Skopelos is lovely IMO

Not as nice as Alonissos which is also in the sporades. Very quiet but divine.

Skiathos a bit posher, full of italian poseurs when I was there.

Bear in mind not been there since 1990.

Stayed in Skopelos in 2001, and thought it was great - very Greek (as in there were alot of Greek tourists from the mainland as well as the other nationalities). There is a little bar that rents rooms and has a swimming pool with good food and the best homemade lemonade/melon juice cocktails here: \link{}
The main town dosn't have great beaches, but we managed to fill two weeks quite happily!

Why are links so hard???

No idea sorry beety, we were there in 1990 and tbh had blown most of our cash in the Ecstasy Cafe in Skopelos within about 24 hours of arrival. Ended up sleeping under a tree for several days and nicking bottles of metaxa and ouzo from the local shop

So unless you want a nice tree recommended, I suggest you ask someone else

Beety, My Greek boyfriend was from Skiathos! The pictures I have seen were fabulous (I guess he was a bit partial). I have always wanted to go there--now I wish I bought a piece of land which I could have at that point in time (23 years ago now). I don't even know if he is still alive. His name was Vacilious Kantrakas (Bill). I will never forget him....he tought me alot about greek cooking too...

(i hasten to add we blew it on cocktails NOT ecstasy! That was just the name of the cafe)
