Any recommendations for a great place to stay in Brittany?

Having had some lovely but very wet holidays in Devon and Cornwall in recent years we've decided to go to France and have heard Brittany is lovely. Just wondering if anyone can recommend either a quiet campsite (my dh can't bear karaoke or evening entertainment!) or a gite. Also would like to be near to little french villages/markets and beaches for the ds's who are 4 and 7.

Small point but be aware- Brittany cops much of the same weather as Devon and Cornwall, being a peninsula stuck out into the Atlantic and all. And heading sufficiently south to guarantee (ahem) sun is an awfully long way!

That said, we're heading off to Brittany this year, a bit becasue we, too, are fed up with the 'variability' of the English summer! We're off to the sort of place your DH wouldn't like- Le Ranolien, on the Pink Granite Coast (ie western side of teh north coast) favoured by Eurocamp, Canvas et al. I gather Brittany IS lovely so we're hoping that having a) an actual chalet over our heads and b) the cultural variations will make being in Brittany in the rain more fun than being in Devon!

That's what we thought too. French rain instead of British!! Might look a little further south then - maybe the vendee

We live in Brittany and find the weather pattern is similar to Cornwall etc. but it is usually around 5 degrees warmer where we are, and quite a bit less rain. The weather pattern does vary quite a bit, with Finistere getting quite a bit more rain than we do for example (Golfe du Morbihan protects us!) anyway, if you want to have a look at our website here - we've had quite a few MN'ers here this year (they've all been absolutely lovely too!!) if you want more info on the weather patterns I'll try & find a link for you later....?(DH & DS just got back from a bike ride & are looking for dinner!)

We've stayed at chatuau des Ormes, 20 minutes from St Malo, and loved it. It has riding stables with little ponies for children as well as horses, boating, pools with slides, a bar, restaurant, takeaway and shop.Lovely area, near Mont San Michel and nice villages.
