(5 Posts)We've cruised for the past 5 years, but DH and DD1 have decided they don't want to do that again.
To be fair, DD1 got seasick for the first time last year so I can understand that, but she won't fly either. And none of us like to too hot.
So, DD's (19 &17) like shopping, even if it's local shops or gift shops, and internet access. They are not sporty in the slightest, not even swimming, but like arty things and science.
DH on the other hand would ideally like to be in the middle of nowhere, so he can go for long cycle rides.
I just want to be able to relax, read, and not have to worry about the rest of the family having stuff to do!
I also would like full board, as the family have complex food demands and it's nice to not have the mental strain of preparing different requirements. Plus I'd quite like to have a meal cooked for me for once!
DD1 has to have a low fat diet due to gastro issues.
DD2 is veggie, virtually vegan, and doesn't like spicy.
DH doesn't really like vegetables or salad. He also says he hates eating in restaurants as he does it a lot for business and prefers simple home made food.
Help! I can see us ending up in a field somewhere with grumpy DD's and me doing all of the cooking (which of course is actually meal planning, shopping, preparing, cooking and washing up...)
Get a self-catering property somewhere that has both a restaurant and a take-away service, so that some nights you can eat out, and other nights you can order in what you wish whilst your DH cooks something simple for himself.
Self catering or B&B somewhere like Swiss or Italian Lakes, Croatia or Slovakia? Meals a mix of a/c from local shops and lots of different restaurants?
If flying and boats are out, what about a trip across in the Eurotunnel? Can go to France or drive theough to one if the neighbouring countries, even over to Spain if someone doesn't mind driving. Their are eurocamps that would cater for most needs too.
Depends on your budget.
An AI would solve the food issue - they can all select their own food .
You'll be spoilt for choice with all types of venues, location near a town might be the best idea.
