Start using Mumsnet PremiumTurkish lira, better to change here or in Turkey?
(6 Posts)Hi anyone been to Turkey recently or in Turkey right now?
Wondering if it's cheaper to change it out there or in the UK?
Thanks
Today's rate is roughly £1 = 6.5 lira
I went last month and took Lira with me but I'd bought before Christmas when the rate was good.
Simon Calder the travel man on BBC said this morning though if going to Turkey now to change your money when you get there.
When I went (been twice in the last 3 years) they preferred the euro... not sure it’s still the same last time I went was in 2017... I went to Dalaman and Antalya both places were more for the Euro than Lira.
Thanks Fear & Porky, very helpful.
Lira is stronger than the euro so we'll take sterling to change over there. We have some left over euros so will take that with us too. Thanks again.
The rate in Turkey is about 6.5 lira, it dropped from about 7 a week or so ago.
It is usually better to change out there for the best rate.
Don't bother with euros, they may prefer it in some places but if you are from the UK you will lose out by changing into euro first.
We have just come back form Bodrum and always paid in lira.
