Start using Mumsnet PremiumHow to prevent babies from getting earaches on a flight
(4 Posts)Am just seeking some tips on what to do to prevent a baby from having earache during a flight. I am traveling with my 1 year old baby for the first time and am a bit nervous about it. It's an 8 hour flight..... so any helpful tips will be appreciated.
It's during descent that ears hurt, isn't it? So sucking during that time helps. Didn't they used to hand out lollipops to children before landing to help prevent ear pain. When my dc was very young we kept giving them a bottle (of dilute juice) and as a result just as we landed they puked all over us. We probably deserved that. A soother? Getting them to yawn is supposed to work too.
My DS was fine. There's lots of posts if you search about good ways to entertain a 1 year old on the plane.
We always have milk/water or something chewy to hand to encourage swallowing. I suffer awfully with ear pressure on planes so I panicked loads that DC would be in agony but they've never seemed bothered!
