(16 Posts)Hi, just two of us are looking to go to Italy in September.
We're looking for a town on the coast and access to the sea. Preferably very cultural and historic without 60s cheap hol flats. Southern Italy.
Any ideas and recommendations?
Thanks !
Portofino? Sorrento?
Maybe not as far south as you want but Sperlonga is lovely.
Ischia? Fabulous and you have Naples thrown in as a bonus.
Amalfi is gorgeous but pricey.
Ooh go to Malcesine on Lake Garda!
Slight pricey accommodation but you can eat and drink like kings for bugger all. Easily get a smashing 2 course meal and litre of house wine for 50 Euro. It's also beautiful and chilled and there's loads to do.
@Crumbs1 We've been to Ischia in October, it's gorgeous and cheap.
Limone Lake Guarda
Portofino is in the N, isn't it?
There's a place called Gaeta where I stayed (in a small tent ) many years ago - it's between Rome & Naples. Going by TripAdvisor it's still pretty nice, & very Italian.

Bari area for seaside and Matera for history
Viareggio - blissful
The Amalfi coast is beautiful and you can do trips to Sorrento, Capri, Ischia, Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Ostuni in Puglia. Beach, whitewashed old town, old. Very romantic.
Oops. Missed the point about it being Southern Italy!
Positano- gorgeous and normally very touristy but probably less so in September
Positano so so so beautiful but rather dull at night
