Family Holiday Bucket List

Where in the world would you put on your 'must take the kids before they no longer wish to holiday with me' list?

Am thinking locations rather than resorts or accomodation as I am a newly converted house swapper. I have a home in London so get offers to swap every week. My kids are 13, 4 and 2 and like the idea of having a list of places to take them to over the next 15 years or so. Not just 'oh that would be nice' but 'this place is stunning/amazing/best fun ever/life changing'. At the moment we are sticking to short haul (in general) for the little ones but in future the world is our oyster! We like theme parks, museums, culture, nature, food...

My ideas:
Legoland Denmark
Eiffel Tower (going in October)
Lapland
Amsterdam, canal boat trip and Anne Frank House
Barcelona, Guell Park
Berlin Wall
San Diego Zoo (taken kids once, amazing, have to go back!)
Disneyland (doing Paris in October, have taken eldest to Florida and would definitely take younger ones in a few years)
Yosemite
New York for well, everything!
Pyramids in Egypt
Blossom in Japan
Tulip fields in the Netherlands
Flanders poppy fields and Normandy beaches
Northern Lights
Geysers in Iceland
Climb Snowdonia

I actually have a much longer wishlist of places to visit but realise a lot of that is for myself rather than for the kids! Where else would you put on your list - or have been and would recommend as a must see place for or with kids?

Wow - that's quite a list. Sounds amazing - apart form the Disney bits - I'd rather stick pins in my eyes!

I've been to Santorini and walked on the volcano. The ground is hot and you can smell sulphur in the air. The beaches are black too which is cool. You can combine that with seeing the acropolis in Athens.

How about Loch Ness? A bit more achievable than some. Also Giants Causeway.

I'd add the Norwegian Fjords too. Never been but would love to.

I agree with lots of yours (especially Japan) and would add...
Costa Rica
Safari ( would love a night at the giraffe manor)
Vietnam - friend's photos always look amazing
New Zealand
Venice
San Francisco
Vancouver
Rocky Mountains - Jasper/Banff/lake Louise

I second Costa Rica. We had an amazing time there with 4yo DS.

Love the ideas in this thread. I would like to look into house swapping (we live in a touristy bit of Cornwall). Can you recommend a good house swap website?

If you like theme parks then the Puy du Fou in the Vendee (France) has been voted the best in the world.

My "family holiday bucket list" looks like this:

Rocky Mountains (specifically Banff national park)
Japan
Germany
Amsterdam
San Diego Comic Con
Scotland
Aruba
Dominican Republic
Glastonbury Festival (ok, not a holiday but still)
Russia
Sweden

Also we want to drive down the West Coast of America and do a tour of that region. DS is only 4 so we've got at least another 12 years to pack it all in smile
