Yes but they have to have 'standing' in the community.

So a teacher, dr, bank manager, thank sort of thing.

They can't be related though

It has to be a person 'of good standing' in the community and have known you for two years or more. So a teacher, police officer, nurse, MP, etc.

There's a list of suggested people in the guidance notes. Has to be someone of good standing, so as long as friend fits the criteria they'd be fine to sign it.

Vicar, bank manager, boss...

A friend can do if as long as she has a professional quLification.

A pub landlord can sign as well as they are given their licence through the court.

We just asked our neighbour. It wasn't declined!

If the headmaster has known your DS for two years he must have known you the same amount of time? Also with a child I think the person needs to have known the parent not the child.

I do it a lot as a teacher. They don't need to be my pupils - I have signed for friends as well as long as I have known them two years. I would happily do a family group as well as long as I was given plenty of warning. I get a bit anxious doing them as a mistake can cause a lot of issues so I like to be given time

Passmethecrisps Fri 01-Jan-16 18:04:42

The list of possible jobs has got a lot longer I think so t is easier to find people who can do it than it used to be.

ilovesprouts Fri 01-Jan-16 18:19:32

Yes ds2 headmistress has known us for 3 years so could ask her to do both my friend is just a housewife.

glamorousgrandmother Fri 01-Jan-16 18:28:23

If you ask a teacher to sign please remember to ask not demand. I always declined people who thrust the paperwork at me saying I had to do it because the doctor wouldn't do it without being paid.

NickNacks Fri 01-Jan-16 18:54:01

Surely that applies to anyone, not just teachers.

ilovesprouts Fri 01-Jan-16 19:26:25

Now ex hubby says I can't take him as he won't sign the passport form but if I've got parental rights only one parent needs to sign is that right ??

NickNacks Fri 01-Jan-16 20:47:12

Yes that's true but you need his passport info (do you not have the form in front of you) and if you do get that far you may need a letter of consent to get him through the border.

ilovesprouts Fri 01-Jan-16 20:51:01
