Hi. Vegas is lots of fun. But bear in mind that all the casinos are very smokey. If you stay at a casino it is fun and cheap but you have to walk across the gaming floor to get to the reception /room lifts.Having said that Vdara is an excellent choice for a family - all suites including a kitchen and non smoking.

Some of the strip attractions are outdoor though. Eg. The ship sinking every night at treasure Island.

Nearby in Vegas there are lots of interesting nature walks. We especially like red rock canyon - about a 30 min drive from the strip.

If you get a car there really is a lot of interesting things to see and do off the strip.

Also bear in mind that Joshua tree national park is only 2.5-3 hrs away by car.

Car hire is cheap and parking is free at a lot of casinos /hotels.

It depends what you want to do on the holiday?

What sort of things do they like doing?.

How long would you go on holiday for?.

I would pick NYC over Vegas if you have teenagers, particularly in the event they have never visited NYC.

BA and Virgin fly to Las Vegas direct but it may be problematic finding availability now for the Easter period. (Your two children would each now pay adult fare).

Children can walk through the hotel gaming areas with their parents (you will however need to supervise them at all times in the hotel casinos and they cannot wander off by themselves) but they cannot linger at all, they will need to keep walking. Easter in Las Vegas temperature wise can get into the high 80s/low 90s by the early afternoon.

The Treasure Island pirate ship show has changed to be aimed more at adults
in recent years.

Traffic on the Strip can be hellish early morning and during evening hours.

If you do go to Las Vegas I'd look also at somewhere like the MGM Signature as these are fully serviced 1 or 2 bedroom apartments. It is also a non gaming and non smoking facility so ideal for families.

I think for museums NY wins hands down. Probably wins on quality of food as well.

Also it is very iconically American IYSWIM, whereas Vegas can feel a bit fake.

Attila - Good call on the signature - it is also very good.

If your children haven't been to NYC before I would choose it over Las Vegas. Las Vegas is great too but definately more options in NYC. If you go to Vegas I can only second the Vdara.

Given the choice between these 2 i would take mine (15,13 and 11) to NY. Vegas is bit too adult for my liking. given a completely free choice i would take them back to Florida keys. stayed in Islamorada the teens said it was their most fab hol ever, loads of outdoor things to do, visit to the everglades fab food etc. pm me if you want more details.

New York.

Minor point. The casinos, at least the major ones, are NOT 'very smokey'. Management want you stick around to gamble so they ensure the casino is always well ventilated and smoke free.

coconutty mine have outgrown disney but i like the weather in florida especially in Dec/Jan the only time we can take a holiday. just over an hour from miami airport to islamorada and once there can hire kayaks to be delivered to your door, bikes (lovely flat cycling) go on snorkelling trips etc. Are you thinking Easter this year because if so its only 5 weeks away and you may have left it late to get flights to the major destinations.

Another vote for NYC! Noone could be bored there - so much choice of entertainment and food.

if you don't like theme parks and don't like driving miles than Vegas is definitely not for you!
