We are off to Spain and the flight will be three hours. My DD is 8 and my DS is 3. What should be in their carry on?

Colouring and a set of pens/crayons
clean tshirt for the big one, outfit for the little one (are you trusting them or will they wear a nappy?)
DS or similar; music player with earphones. Story pre-loaded on it?
Small character toys but not ones with lots of little bits
Earplugs, sweets for landing, travel bands if you have a sicky one

He is mostly potty trained but still has the odd accident so I'll put him in nappies with all the excitement.

Thank you. I could give DD gum but what sort of sweet would I give a 3 year old. I'd worry about him choking.

Good point (mine are bigger and we give them boiled sweets).

Would he slurp water from a baby bottle? You could take empty bottle on with you, then buy a bottle of water once aboard?

He usually uses a regular cup but might take a sippy cup if I dilute some orange juice and put in it.

Remember you can't take liquids onto the plane

paulaplumpbottom Wed 10-Aug-11 10:36:39

Oh I know. Hopefully I'll be able to buy some either airside or on the plane.

You can take on board bottles of water that you have bought at hugely inflated prices airside.

In the DCs hand luggage we take something along the lines of:

-Nintendo DS or similar
-mini-colouring books/wordsearches/puzzle books
-magazine each which usually comes with a free gift (they get to chose one in the airport WHSmiths -its become part of a holiday tradition/treat as we don't normally buy them)
-babywipes and tissues
-snacks (lots!)
-lightweight change of clothes
-chewing gum for take-off and landing (but my 2 are now 7 and 11)

Thanks Croissant! I hadn't thought about those magazines. My DS is always begging for one. They are such a rip off do I always say no. This is the perfect time.

CroissantNeuf Wed 10-Aug-11 11:04:58

Paula -just make sure the free gift isn't a little plastic flute or some other noise maker wink

Lol I won't. They make enough noise without additional help!
