No fruit, veg (not likely with a 16y!!) , cheese.... They have a very strong policy about it. It is about protecting their agriculture or something like that.
Not sure if biscuits are ok. My sister had a very bad afternoon in NY years ago for a tiny apple (BIG fine and treated like a criminal). If nobody comes forward, try posting in the living overseas thread and ask the US MNs!
And yes, lucky boy!!

I take it as read that his passport is in order he has completed his ESTA form online.

Biscuits are fine. No fruit (they certainly do fine people for such transgressions) meat or vegetables though are permissable to bring in.

He can take a bottle of water/soft drink and foodstuffs onto the plane once he is past the security checkpoint at the UK airport. He needs to pack his deoderant and shampoo in his suitcase rather than his hand luggage. He should not have any liquid items over 100ml on him when approaching the security checkpoint because these will be taken off him otherwise. He may need to remove his shoes, he will certainly need to remove his coat at the security checkpoint.

He will be both fingerprinted and photographed on arrival into the US.

No medications containing codeine (Nurofen Plus for eg) as it's a prescription only drug there
