New TV is like watching a photo negative

Bought new digital TV today for bedroom. So its on top of chest of drawers and I want to lie in bed and watch it. When you watch it sat up i nthe bed so with your head at teh same level its fine. When you lie down and watch it from an angle its totally unwatchable. There's no angle function on the TV. Is this a valid reason to take it back? I've tried muckign about with contrast/brightness, etc and it makes no difference. Hubby reckons all flat screen TVs will be like this.

Yup, it's the way flat screen TVs are.

You'll need to either mount it on a bracket with an angle adjuster, or mess about with it yourself, maybe propping it up with something...

I don't really have any free wall where I could mount it where it would be at a resonable angle due to fitted wardrobes.

I need to take it back. I bet they refuse to let me as I've opened the box.

What type is it? I've just tried viewing our LCD from all angles (much to the bemusement of DS, who wondered why I was lying on the floor) & it's fine. I'd try taking it back; they might swap it, even if they wouldn't give a refund & you could get one that's OK at an angle.

the viewing angle depends on the TV. Cheaper TVs will have inferior viewing angles. What brand is it?

Seems like a reasonable reason to take it back to me. But it depends whether the viewing angle problem is out of the ordinary or not really.

Its Ferguson. So not the cheapest brand.

My head's only about a foot below the level of the TV so I don't think its too unreasonable an angle. DH has managed to tilt the TV with a roll of sellotape laid flat under the back of the stand. It does work even if it doesn't look very good. I think I'm going to have to live with it. Thanks for the advice though.

We've got a flat screen plasma and we can watch it from an angle. I don't like LCD screens, because of the flicker.

I think Ferguson is a pretty cheap brand isn't it?

I'm not sure which one you've got, I would take it back and get a decent one TBH.

From what I can see Ferguson quote a 160 degree vertical viewing angle, which means they are using older tech.

Best bet would be to return it, then post your requirements up here: www.avforums.com/forums/lcd-tv-should-i-buy/ to find a more suitable model.
