I'm in need of some kind of external memory / back up type thing as my computer is getting bogged down with all my photo's.

Can someone recommend something good to me - and don't go asking any technical questions because my answer will be "I don't know"

A little over £50 will get you 500GB of external storage on a 7200 rpm disk. Take a look at these options and ask about anything you don't understand.

Toshiba, Seagate and Maxtor are all well known names. The Seagate FreeAgent seems to include encryption software, if you're concerned about keeping your data private.

Currys currently have a 1000 gb (which is a very big storage amount) external drive for around £68. There are smaller storage drives available for less money, but this one seems particularly good value.

It is recommended to store special data (photos in particular) on 3 different storage facilities as unfortunately, hard disks and CDs and DVDs can stop working (usually at the worst time).

I've just bought an external hard drive, purely to back up photos. £50 for 640GB, which seemed pretty reasonable to me. Was from Comet/Currys, I can't remember which.

I'm not at all technical, so not sure if it si the best thing or not, but was easy to buy, plugged in, and worked.
