We've just installed a new hard drive(developed a tick then registry failures) and have reinstalled Windows XP which is updated to Service Pack 1 so far. Every so often this error message pops up with a Setup tab on the task bar, while online. Any ideas please ?

Trouble is it can mean different things depending where it's coming from. "That file already exists" or "Unable to identify the Windows partition" for example.

Can you identify this setup tab on the taskbar? if it's a minimised window can you click it to open it to get a proper look?

Try looking in events. (start menu - click the run box and type eventvwr.msc)

In events you can double click either Applications or System for a different list of recent events some of which will carry warning icons because something went wrong.

They all have times/dates so you should be able to look at what just happened when this message occured.
