... and I have zero computer skills.

It has been struggling a bit for a while & needs a new battery desparately. But having turned it on this morning - the toolbar at the bottom has disappeared. I know I've got that back before , but can't find it now.

And it's now telling me that "the application mail cannot be launched. -600" Although it let me in first thing... and I can hear emails pinging in

Help

You need to go into system preferences which you can find if you click on the apple symbol in the left hand corner ofr your screen

Then click on dock and you should be able to adjust your setting. As for mail not opening - sorry can't help there hopefully someone will come along and know the answer to that soon - have you turned off and on again - can often solve lots of problems

.....or search for 'dock' (that's what they call the toolbar thingy for some reason) on spotlight (magnifying glass top right hand corner) if you have it, which you will if you are running one of the more recent (last 5 years) versions of OSX.

Thanks McDreamy - had gone into systems preferences but not spotted dock. Have tried magnifying it, positioning it right left and all over, and it still won't come back. I know I can work without it but it is annoying!

But on the up side, have managed to get into mail (not sure how!)

Hi

Our Mac was on its death bed last week. Our battery had died a while back, and if the power source was turned off before we shut down it seemed to mess applications up. One by one all the MS Office apps went, followed by Safari and Firefox and also the wireless access. The last straw was when iTunes went, and took our library with it.

We went to Genius Bar at the Apple Store (the guys at Bluewater are FAAAAABBBB) and they had to reset the computer and then reinstall all the software (or something like that). Anyway, it took 6 hours. We have also bought a battery as I think it was the constant shutting down wot done it. So far, so good.

Humm, interesting, I guess maybe it's the battery that's the root of problem.

I do live reasonably near an apple store, luckily,so if the worst comes to the worst, I will go and throw myself at their feet - they are totally fab (once you get in to see them...)
