Geeky stuff

Can someone talk to me about Nintendo DS/R4 cards using really simple words?

I really don't understand this stuff.

DD has a Nintendo DS. She bought an R4 card adamant that she knew what to do with it, but it's arrived today and we're both stumped. It's this one There's the R4 card and a USB memory stick, but it looks like it's meant to have an even smaller card (a TF card?) that goes in both the memory stick for downloading and then into the R4 card for playing on the DS. But there doesn't seem to be a TF card and the description doesn't specifically mention one.

Can anyone explain this to me?!

There should be a tiny chip in the end of the USB stick that you can gently remove using a fingernail.

Once you have downloaded the games to the USB stick, you remove the chip and slot it into the R4 card, which then goes into the DS player.

Hello Sidge, thank you for replying.

There doesn't seem to be a small card in the end of the USB stick. Has the bloody thing come without it?! ...

Actually, have just noticed on the description it says 'MicroSD card not included' is that what it is?

Yep, you need the micro SD card.
You can't really do anything without it.

Does it not seem wrong to sell the uSB thing and the SD card without the TF card?

no if you go to some sites some sell with micro sd card and micro sd card reader some just sell with sd card

i used tecknet and they sold it with micro sd card the micro ds card reader which you need to be able to put anything on micro sd card if have no sd card slot

also came with the instillation cd

its not as simple as it looks you need to download the kurnel and paste the 5 folders into the micro sd card and then create a new folder and then you can downloaded games into that

mine had cd already and full instructions so was really easy

it looks like you should have sd card in it now looking at it look at other end not usb end and there should be a slot is it in there you have to use your nail and slide it up i cant see it on the listing though to say it comes with sd card just the reader

some don't sell with the micro sd card but there so cheap on ebay only few pound they are listed normally with what comes with it i can see it says can be used with any micro sd

but they dont recommend higher than a 4 gb and 2 gb can hold over 50 games so sufficient enough

x posted with you for that price i think you got it cheap they normally go for more than that without the sd card i made sure i done alot of research first and found tecknet that sold whole package

this should help

you would want r4 v2 when getting kurnell

download your games when games open it will have a file ending in nds and you drag and drop that onto your micro sd card

first you put micro sd card into the card reader and then into usb it will come up and you would select open folder you would then find and open your kurnel download and drag and drop all files into the open micro sd folder

when down loading the games put these into there own folder so make a folder nds games and drag and drop all nds files into it and then put onto your open micro sd folder and then whenever you want to add a game open micro sd folder and drag nds file into the games folder already in there

forgot to say they normally recommend when you add kurnell files onto r4 card remove and test to see that the ds can read it if all is well then add the games

Pageturner, I have an email I sent to a friend detailing how to set up and use the R4DS card.

If you need it next week just let me know

To complicate matters, I had to put most of my games through Zipgenius too, as they came as zipped files.
That might just have been the ones I downloaded for free got though.

this is what you need to go inside it. Though your R4 will probably take a higher Gigy daughters is a two GB. She has loads of games stored on it and it still works.

They guy I bought mine from said don't go too high on the memory capacity as it might effect how the R4 works in the DS.

If you are lucky your mobile phone may have a micro sd card in it, many do. Or a memory card you got for a digital camera may also have a micro sd slotted inside it. It's worth checking before you go out buying one.
