Sorry if i am going to go on abit here....Can anyone help??? Last week my telephone wouldn't work it had a kind of a computery/wirey noise when i tried to use it. So i just thought the phone line was down. Then i tried to go on line of my laptop and that wouldn't work either. I unplugged the router from the phone socket and plugged the phone line directly in the wall, which made the phone work again. The problem is i can't get the laptop to work online. I unplugged the router and then plugged it all back in again, do i need a phone line with a router??? I think i do, but i am abit 'thick' with things like this?? Do you think it is a router problem, the lights flash but it just won't go on line. I tried a different connection thing with the router, think it was called an 'adsl' or something like that but that didn't work....... Can anyone make any sense out of what i have just written lol??!!! Do you reckon i need to call out a really expensive computer man???

Are your DSL and Internet lights on on your router?

I had this problem, I had to ring Tiscali and they talked me through how to reconfigure my router.

the first thing she told me to try was find the tiny hole on top of the router, the reset button, and push that in with a sharp pencil for 30 seconds.

But I think you had better ring your broadband provider , it may be a problem their end.

Thats a good idea about the reset button, haven't seen a little hole but will have a look! I remember having to do that with a sat nav once. Thanks Its a nightmare when something goes wrong with the computer cos i haven't got a clue!

Any phones in the house must plug into a filter. This is a link to a typical filter As you can see there is a hole for a phone and for the adsl cable that runs from your router.

The filter you were using when it went wrong may have been faulty. You need to try another one. At first just try it without any phones plugged in at all. Just the router into the filter and the filter in the telephone socket on the wall.
