HELP needed with flash website problem

brokenrecord · 24/09/2008 11:54

I need some advice from someone with Flash knowledge pleeease.

My web designer put up my new website before she went away for several weeks. At the moment she is uncontactable. I desperately need to fix a typo on the 'contact' page to enable the email contact to work.

Any gurus or webdesigners out there who can advise?

Ouch. How about replacing the Flash page with an HTML version? Unless you have the source files I would abandon thoughts of modifying the Flash pages.

AHA! Thank you. Is HTML easier to do? I don't know how much is involved in putting together a website. I felt that most time-consuming thing was deciding on the look and layout, and I was wondering if it might be possible to cobble together something similar to put up there until she gets back. It's that or a holding page - I am going to lose potential clients otherwise, not to mention looking extremely unprofessional.

Do you have the FLA file? If you do, and it's Flash 8 or earlier I could fix the typo for you.
It's not impossible to fix it with just the swf, but it's trickier than it used to be because they tend to be compressed. I could have a quick look if you want.

You need the details to log in to the site and upload the HTML page (the FTP username and password). If you post the web site here I'll knock something up for you if you like,

What is the actual issue... is it that the e-mail address to which e-mail is to be sent, is wrong? Is it just the bit before the @ sign? If so, could you create a e-mail redirect, so that mail to that incorrectly spelled address is re-routed to the correct address. You will need administrative access to your web server to configure this, but it is quite easy to do, especially if your webserver is running something like Plesk.

I don't have any files. I am going to have to scrabble around to find the hosting company name, though I think I can remember the password. I shall send you an email now via your site on your profile page and see if we can take it any further. Thank you for your kind offer either way.

Sorry. X-posted with a couple of people there. I was replying to electech originally.

Nannynick - that sounds like a fantastic idea, but unfortunately my DP says that an invalid email address might not make it far enough to get redirected (I'm paraphrasing.)

MrVibrating - thank you too. It would probably make sense to try to edit the compressed file first if at all possible, and if not I may well be asking you for help with an HTML version or covering page.

PS. Nannynick - I'm not saying DP is right - it is worth a try too, BTW.

Aw, not having the source file makes me a bit of a long shot I'm afraid, but do chuck an email at me anyhow - worth a pop!

A long as you can get the details to access the server there'll certainly be something that can be done though.

IT'S FIXED! IT'S FIXED! IT'S FIXED!

DP was spurred into action to have a look at it when I started quoting other people's advice, and he found that it was easier to edit than he had thought.

Thank you so much to all the people who took the time to reply, and especially those who offered to give up time to try to fix it.

Hahaha! Hooray for that. One less typo in the world has to be a good thing.
