Why is my hard drive making noises like a helicopter?

It has been doing it for a couple of days. It slounds like blades going round. ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-chc-hc- very quickly and constantly. Is there a large mammal caught in the fan d'you think? Or is it about to break?

Help me please smile

er- erm - where would I find that please?

I just opened the disc thingy (looks like coffee holder) and put in a disc, it started up and has now stopped making that noise. I also moved it slightly on the desk as I think it was vibrating? and has stopped that too.

Oh Hifi has it not blown up then? That is encouraging.

LackaDAISYcal Thu 28-Aug-08 23:46:37

my disc drive does that when it's trying to read a non existent disc.

Maybe it thinks there is a disc in there?

or maybe it's just pavlov's DD playing games wink

hifi Thu 28-Aug-08 23:46:38

no, still chugging along.

FlightAttendent Thu 28-Aug-08 23:48:52

Lol, MN at silly o'clock is great! I am only here waiting to order from a catalogue at midnight, sad sad woman I am...grin

LackaDAISYcal Thu 28-Aug-08 23:59:04

lol at silly o'clock. I don't know why I'm still up as I had five hours sleep last night thanks to cranky, miserable, teething DD and there's no guarantee she won't do it again tonight.

hope you get it fixed FA smile

Excellent. Mine has been whirring like that for a couple of days.

So... if popping a CD in doesn't work how do I clean the filter? And can I really be trusted to operate technical machinery? grin
